sanitary steam trap

How does a sanitary steam trap work

Pressure builds up inside the bellows expanding it and driving the attached plug (ball or conical tip) into the orifice at the trap outlet. The trap will stay in that closed position until the bellows temperature falls below saturation temperature.

What is sanitary steam?
Clean steam is a sterile, safe steam that can be used to sterilize and clean items in a cleanroom or other pharmaceutical or medical setting with strict cleanliness criteria. The industry uses clean steam—rather than standard steam—for higher levels of steam sterilization and humidification

Where should steam traps be installed?
Locate the steam trap below the lowest condensate discharge point of the equipment. Never install a rise in the pipe ahead of a steam trap. Check valves should be installed after the steam traps in most applications.

Sanitary steam traps are an essential component in steam systems used in various industries, such as food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, dairy, and beverage. They ensure that condensate is discharged and non-condensable gas is removed from the system, allowing for efficient and effective operation. The SV5001 Sanitary Steam Trap from SANSUN is a balanced port, thermostatic steam trap specifically designed for use in validated clean steam systems.

Designed with Sanitary Standards in Mind
The SV5001 steam trap follows ASME BPE guidelines, with all internal wetted parts having a 20Ra µin finish, a self-draining design, and all relevant material, marking, and documentation guidelines. The use of these guidelines ensures that the steam trap meets sanitary standards for use in the food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, dairy, and beverage industries.

High Flow Rates at Low Pressures
The SV5001 has been specifically designed to provide higher flow rates at low pressures and low subcooling levels. In lab testing, the SV5001 consistently exhibited excellent flow rates at subcooling levels of less than 3°F (<1,7°C). Low subcooling operation reduces the probability of temperature validation faults and resultant SIP delays. It also ensures that condensate won’t back up and wet (cool) the upstream validated temperature sensor.

Two Base Designs
There are two base designs within the SV5001 product range: the standard SV5001, which is good for differential pressures (P1) up to 50 psi (3,4 bar), and the SV5001 Option “P” for differential pressures ranging from 45 – 90 psi (3,1 – 6,2 bar). Both designs are rated to 90 psi (6,2 bar) operating pressure but are recommended for use within the specified inlet pressure ratings.

Easy to Use and Maintain
During start-up, the bellows element is contracted and fully open to discharge all non-condensable gas and condensate. The heat of entering steam causes the element to expand, closing the valve. As condensate accumulates in the body, the element cools, causing the bellows/stem tip to retract, allowing condensate to drain. The SV5001 steam trap is easy to install and maintain, making it an ideal solution for clean steam systems.

Applications and Specifications
The SV5001 steam trap is suitable for a wide range of applications, including sterilization drainage for fermenters, bioreactors, separation and filtration equipment, lyophilizers, autoclaves, process piping equipment, and steam barriers. It comes in four sizes, 1/2”, 3/4″, 1″, 1-1/2″, and three end connections, ASME, DIN/ISO Sanitary Tri-Clamp, and ASME/DIN/ISO Tube Ends. The materials used for construction are all 316L stainless steel, with gaskets that are FDA and USP Class VI compliant.

The SV5001 Sanitary Steam Trap from SANSUN is a reliable and effective solution for clean steam systems in the food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, dairy, and beverage industries. It is designed to meet the highest sanitary standards, with excellent flow rates and easy installation and maintenance. Manufacturer Of Sanitary Steam Traps

Sanitary steam traps / hygienical Steam Traps / Clean Steam Traps are used in industries where steam purity is critical, such as in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. These traps are designed to remove condensate and other impurities from steam systems while maintaining the purity of the steam.

Clean steam traps and accessory devices for process SIP and distribution line condensate removal, 1/2″ – 2″ (DN15 – DN80), tri-clamp, weld end or NPT connections, low flow to very high flow, all with low subcooling.

SANSUN offers the Pharma industries the broadest range of Clean Steam traps for SIP condensate removal and devices that provide unique solutions to common SIP problems.

Single steam traps that cover cool condensate loads at 20 psid (1,38 bar-d) from 1934 lbs/hr (877 kg/hr) to very large vessel heat-up loads up to 12,758 lbs/hr (5787 kg/hr).

The industry first developed for:

space constrained installations with as little as 2.5″ (64mm) of distance between validation sensor and steam trap
dramatically reducing the probability of validation temperature alarms
The industries’ first device developed to reduce the capital cost associated with under vessel SIP tubing and control requirements.

The industries first devices developed to increase the uptime for your process vessels by reducing SIP heat-uptimes, while minimizing clean steam use.

The free flow of condensate, seamless design to the maximum extent to suppress bacterial accumulation;
The “fail-open” characteristic minimizes the possibility of critical operation shutdown;
The large valve mouth design can quickly discharge a large amount of air to ensure rapid start-up, prevent blockage, and ensure continuous operation.
Self draining when installed vertically (body outlet side down)

  • either vertical or horizontal connections
    The internal non-retention structure, self-emptying design of condensate, surface roughness RA<0.6um to prevent bacterial growth.
